Flint, Michigan: Partnering to Make Water Safe Again

Flint, Michigan, became a global symbol of what happens when aging infrastructure and bad decisions collide. After the city's 2014 water-source switch, corrosive water chewed through pipes, leaching lead into homes and leaving families afraid to drink from their own taps. Rashes, hair loss, and the haunting worry about long-term health turned something as simple as a glass of water into a daily calculation of risk. In one family, a little boy's hair was falling out because of the lead in the water; they couldn't even trust it for bathing.

Innovators like Moses West stepped in with atmospheric water generation units that pulled thousands of gallons of clean water out of thin air for Flint residents. But even good water can become unsafe once it's stored; large cisterns and tanks must be protected from bacteria and other contaminants over time. Clearbrook joined this effort by pairing those bulk water systems with point-of-use filtration, so families could draw from shared storage and still trust what came out of their cup. Clearbrook's American-made, gravity-fed filters are independently lab-tested to remove up to 99.9% of common contaminants, including heavy metals like lead, chlorine, PFAS, and volatile organic compounds.

For that little boy and thousands like him, this kind of solution meant more than convenience. It meant a chance to recover health, dignity, and peace of mind. This is why Clearbrook exists: because clean water is life, and everyone deserves to drink life — no matter their zip code.
